Our Story
Hello! I’m Amber Satterwhite, founder of MO-Fiber. We offer mohair sourced from a small, family-run farm in Missouri, where my family has a long-standing history with Angora goats.
I grew up in the Ozarks of Missouri, spending countless hours training young Angora goats for exhibition at the Missouri State Fair—an event we attended and dominated year after year. Prior to relocating to Montana in the mid-1990s, my family managed a herd of over 1,000 Angora goats. Some of my fondest memories are the trips to Junction, Texas, to sell our mohair.
While much has changed since those early years, the heart of our operation remains the same. My father and stepmother have returned to Missouri and now maintain a new herd of Angora goats, carefully selected from Texas bloodlines. Modern breeding practices have produced certain Angora lines that retain finer, kid-grade fiber well into adulthood—sometimes never transitioning to coarser adult hair. The result is mohair yarn that is both exceptionally strong and next to skin-soft!
All of the yarn and fiber I offer comes exclusively from my parents’ farm in southwestern Missouri. I currently reside in Texas, but travel to Missouri twice a year to assist with shearing. Afterward, I return to Texas to thoroughly skirt and wash the fiber before it is sent to a small mill in Colorado, where it is spun into yarn. Each skein is then hand-dyed by me.
Every step of this process takes place within the United States, ensuring that all proceeds support local farms, mills, and artisans and strengthen local economies.
